An HSA is a personal saving account you can use to pay for qualified out-of-pocket medical expenses with pretax dollars — now or in the future.

​

Once you have elected to enroll in the HSA through Blue Valley, you’ll receive a debit card to help manage your HSA reimbursements. Your HSA can also be used for your expenses and those of your spouse and dependents, even if they are not covered by the HDHP medical plan. 

​

NOTE:  if you already have a UMB HSA account through a prior employer, please contact UMB at (816) 474-4472 if you want to combine your prior assets into your new HSA available through Blue Valley.

Short-Term Disability

Blue Valley is partnered with The Standard for Short-Term Disability coverage in 2023.  Blue Valley pays the cost for basic short-term disability (STD) insurance.  The closed Buy-Up STD plan remains available to eligible participants at current rates.  A new Employee Assistance Program (EAP) through The Standard will also include up the three (3) in-person visits per person, per issue, per year, at no cost to you for all members of your household.

​

Short-Term Disability (STD) coverage is available through The Standard. STD coverage can protect a portion of your paycheck. Employees that are absent from work due to a personal illness, accident or maternity leave may be provided with a benefit equal to a certain percentage of their pay based on the plan that they are enrolled in.

**The 8-Day Buy-Up Plan is only available to those currently enrolled.  If you drop the 8-Day Buy-Up Plan, you will only be eligible for the 31-Day Base Plan in subsequent years.**

What are these plans and how do they work?

 

Accident Insurance: We all want to be ready for bills we don’t see coming – especially accident-related costs not covered by health insurance. You can’t predict things like a child getting hurt playing soccer, or even a car or bike accident. But you can take action to help prepare your finances. Having Accident Insurance (AI) can provide peace of mind.

 

  • Helps with out-of-pocket costs from a covered accident

  • Pays an extra 25% of total benefits for injuries during youth-organized sports up to age 18

  • Pays you or a covered family member directly, not medical providers

  • 24-Hour coverage – includes coverage for accidents that occur on & off the job

  • Can help with whatever costs you decide – like deductibles, copays, or other expenses

  • Provides coverage with no medical questions asked

  • Covers a wide range of treatments due to an accident

  • 70+ Benefit payouts for covered injuries & treatments

Hospital Indemnity Insurance: Health insurance is important, but it may not cover all your bills and out-of-pocket costs, especially when you have a hospital stay – planned or unplanned. Blue Valley Schools offers two different Hospital Indemnity plans to enroll in. Having Hospital Indemnity Insurance (HI) can provide peace of mind.

 

  • Covers hospitalization due to pregnancy, injury and illness – including COVID-19 or a mental health condition

  • Goes with you if you leave employment

  • Can help with expenses you decide – like deductibles, copays or other bills & expenses

  • Coverage is available for your spouse & child(ren)

  • Pays you (not your provider) for a Hospital Admission Benefit and a Hospital Confinement Benefit

Critical Illness Insurance: Health insurance doesn’t usually cover everything. What happens if you need money for copays, deductibles, or other expenses when you are sick? You can’t predict cancer, a heart attack, or a stroke, but you can do something to prepare for the out-of-pocket expenses that come with being seriously ill. Having Critical Illness Insurance (CI) can provide peace of mind.

 

  • Helps with out-of-pocket costs from a covered illness

  • Provides coverage without answering any medical questions

  • Can help with whatever costs you decide – like groceries, childcare or other expenses

  • Covers children at 50% of your benefit amount at no additional cost

  • Pays you directly (not medical providers), so you can choose how to spend the money

  • Goes with you if you leave employment
